Picking up a few years after ‘That’ll Be The Day’ (1973) we see our hero, Jim MacLaine putting together his rock ‘n’ roll band – The Stray Cats. Hooking up with his old mate, Mike Menary, as his road manager, they begin to map out a path to pop / rock mega-stardom. Essex and Apted do an excellent job encapsulating the birth, rise and eventual demise of a rock idol.
